English 12 Honor Extension
English 12 Honors is an extension of the standard English 12 curriculum.
Honors seminars meet weekly during Flexblock (10:21–11:06 AM)—which takes place every Thursday.
*Students who have more than one Honors class must select their Flexblocks carefully as they need to attend ALL Honor Seminars weekly.
Please review the Honor's Extension pages of the 2025-26 syllabus to understand the expectations of an Honors-level course, the adjusted assignments, and additional assignments.
Interpreter of Maladies (Lahiri, 2019)
A compelling collection of short stories rooted in Indian origin, this work delves into the complexities of immigration, cultural identity, and the lasting impact of colonialism. Through richly drawn characters and diverse narratives, the stories examine the tensions between tradition and modernity, the struggles of displacement, and the search for belonging in unfamiliar lands. Each piece offers a unique perspective on the personal and political forces that shape the Indian diaspora experience.
I Who Have Never Known Men (Harpman, 2019)
A haunting dystopian novel narrated by a young woman who has spent her life confined in an underground cage with 39 other women, watched by silent guards. With no memory of how they got there or what lies beyond, their world is ruled by strict routines—until an alarm forces them into a bleak, post-apocalyptic wasteland. As they confront the unknown, the story explores themes of isolation and confinement, the search for identity and meaning, the human condition, and the power of female bonding.
