Trimester 1
Unit 1 Cognates, Colors & the Spanish Alphabet
In this unit students will use cognate awareness to increase Spanish vocabulary. Students will learn vocabulary for colors to be able to identify and express colors they like in small groups. In addition students will learn letter names in Spanish alphabet to be able to spell names and random words.

Unit 2 Basic Greeting Conversations
In this unit, students will learn basic vocabulary for greetings to be able to respond appropriately in short basic greeting conversations. In addition students will practice taking turns sharing and asking for their names and how are they doing. In class students will have many opportunities to work with partners and in small groups.
Trimester 2
Unit 3 Likes and Dislikes -Expressing things they like
In this unit, students will learn to express likes and dislikes using the appropriate article for nouns being used. Students will learn in context gender and number agreement for nouns when expressing likes and dislikes.
Unit 4 Learn Action verbs -Expressing things they like to do
In this unit, students will learn to vocabulary for action verbs to be able to express things they like and dislike doing. students will also practice basic question formation to enable them to exchange basic information on this topic.
Trimester 3
Unit 5 Telling Time -Expressing what time it is
In this unit, students will continue practicing numbers n real life scenarios to tell time. In addition to learning basic phrases to ask and respond for the time, throughout this unit students will focus on learning numbers in Spanish from 1-60 in Spanish out of order to respond with ease when telling the time.
Unit 6 Weather & Clothing -Express how the weather is and what we wear
In this unit students will learn vocabulary for weather to be able to express how the weather is locally and in different Spanish speaking countries. Students will learn vocabulary for clothing to express what they wear for every season. In class students will also practice basic question formation to enable them to exchange basic information on this topic.

Spanish Speaking Countries Project
In this project students will identify and label Spanish speaking country names to a map. Students will then do a short research on a Spanish speaking country of their choice to present to the class.
