What is the SCA?

The SCA (or Society of Creative Anachronism) is an organization dedicated to researching and recreating pre-17th century arts and skills. Events are held around the local Kingdom and throughout the world. Activities include reenacting artistry and technical skills (known as arts and sciences), combat arts (Heavy Rattan and Rapier Combat), feasts, educational workshops, and many more. Members are recognized for their service and accomplishments within the arts, sciences, martial prowess, and service, by their peers and the Crown. The SCA is a non-profit group, and all members are voluntarily participating. All member events are actively recreating and learning history, each focusing on particular aspects of pre-17th century history. For example, the equestrian activities seek to research and recreate historical endavors utilizing horses throughout history.

What is the West Kingdom Equestrian Championship?

Every year, the equestrians of West Kingdom come together to compete for the title of Equestrian Champion. The Crown selects an equestrian from those presented to represent the Kingdom and carry the title for one year.

Laws of the Kingdom of the West, Section 8.9 - Kingdom Equestrian Champion

An annual Kingdom Equestrian Championship will be held prior to 12th Night (see Article V Section 1.4). The winner of the annual Kingdom Equestrian Championship shall be invested as Kingdom Equestrian Champion at the end of the Equestrian Championship event or at the next Kingdom level event following. The position of Kingdom Equestrian Champion carries an Award of Arms if the Champion is not already armigerous.

Who can participate?

All are welcome! You must have at least a games-level equestrian authorization to officially compete for the title (authorizations can be arranged the morning of the event by request). However, all riders including those not currently members of the SCA may attend to participate, learn, and have fun. We also welcome those who wish to enjoy the festivities on foot as well. As this is a Kingdom level event, there is a site fee for attendance, and we ask that you make an attempt at wearing historical attire if possible.

What are the responsibilities of the West Kingdom Equestrian Champion?

If selected, the Equestrian Champion must attend to the following duties per our rules:

Laws of the Kingdom of the West, Section 8.9.1

Duties of the Kingdom Equestrian Champion during the year of their service shall include: running the next annual competition to find a successor with the assistance of the Kingdom Equestrian Officer, answering any Equestrian-related challenge to the Crown from any other Kingdom, offering counsel and support to the Equestrian Community, and attending the Crown as needed.

Laws of the Kingdom of the West, Section 8.9.2

The tokens of the Kingdom Equestrian Champion shall be a banner and a heraldic caparison, to be passed to successive Champions at the end of the Equestrian Championship event or at the next Kingdom level event following.

Can I pre-pay?

Absolutely. Registration closes Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Noon PACIFIC TIME. All invoices MUST be paid by Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Noon PACIFIC TIME. The link to the paypal pre-registration is HERE.
