Tried first complex pattern, not all forward/all back
First wool band
Numbered all of the cards so I could easily move cards that needed to be specifically rotated
First pattern rotation Rows 1-31 looked GREAT. I was super stoked about the pattern.
Pattern didn’t look complete, so I tried doing an extra all forward row after Row 31 to restart pattern
After a few rows, pattern didn’t look right, so I attempted to just continue with the pattern.
Still didn’t look right, so I tried to undo previous rows to reset the pattern and that was a DISASTER.
Finally decided to reset all the cards to the initial starting point and redo the pattern. This led to a lot of extra twist and tension on my warp threads.
I posted about the issue with my pattern on the West Kingdom Weavers Facebook Group with pictures for advice. Sean McKee troubleshooted with me and discovered that Row 32 was missing from the initial pattern. He recommended adding in Row 32 (Forward 1-2, 15-16; Back 3-14).
The Row 32 fix worked! But because of the previous issues, I couldn’t tell if the pattern unwound itself or not. Rows 1-2 and 15-16 always go forward, so there was lots of twist and threads were getting thin.
The wooly fuzz started binding to itself more and more and thinning threads. Had to be extra careful when separating threads. Hair spray had been recommended, but I wasn’t sure how to implement.
The wool band looks AWESOME. Definitely love the wool appearance.
Because of tension, thin wool thread, and twist, threads started to tear. I was able to reattach a couple of warp threads, but more kept breaking.
Due to breakage issues, I started working on non-weaving projects to avoid this dumpster fire.
02/10/19: Three threads broke off RIGHT at the band and I was unable to reattach them. Decided it was best to cut my loses and salvage what thread I could.
03/03/19: Tried to rewarp the pattern on my first travel loom; the wool was too fuzzy and was getting caught on the wood.
Band now used as a display piece in my tablet weaving classes
