Competition One ~ Iberian Peninsula 722-1492
The Iberian Peninsula, place of wonder, place of cultures, center of art and science.
Starting with the Battle of Covandanga, 722, until the Reconquista, 1492. You are invited to explore the Arts and Sciences of the myriad cultures, time periods, and the societies that interacted with the Iberian Peninsula during this time to bring more Beauty and Knowledge to the Principality of the Mists.
Competition Two ~ African Kingdoms 756-1031
Explore the African Kingdoms, their trade routes and connections with the Caliphate of Cordoba, and the rest of the known world of the time, 756-1031. Delve into the arts and sciences of varied Kingdoms and cultures using research and creativity to bring Beauty and Knowledge to the Mists.
Competition Three ~ Silk Road: From its origins to India
This ranges from China to the midpoint of the Silk Road in the Indian Subcontinent.
Peruse kingdoms, cultures, trade goods, and all their interconnections. Bring fabulous art and science creations to the populace. Use your creativity and ingenuity to craft entries that will help make the Mists a more Beautiful and Knowledgeable principality.
Competition Four ~ Hanseatic League 13th to 16th Centuries
From the Baltic States to Northern Europe explore the art, science, and trade goods of the League Members and its interconnecting trade partners. What were the effects of the League on trade? How were other societies of the time affected? Create an entry for this that makes the Mists more Knowledgeable and Beautiful.
Competition Five ~ Ancient Mediterranean to the Fall of Rome
What was the Ancient Mediterranean like? How powerful was Rome? Minoan, Greek, Phoenician, Mycenaean and so many other cultures to explore. Who were the states that dominated trade? Who were the Sea Peoples? Explore the region and help illuminate through art, science, and culture to bring Knowledge and Beauty to the Mists.
Competition Six ~ India and the Dragon States 6th-16th Centuries
Explore the Medieval Indian subcontinent, (modern day Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) or the The Dragon States (modern day South East Asia; Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, and Papua). Just imagine all the medieval cultures and kingdoms one can study and find fabulous ideas in art or science to promote Knowledge and Beauty in the Mists!
Competition Seven ~ Silk Road: From India to Cairo and Constantinople
Starting in India to its ending in Constantinople and Cairo explore kingdoms, cultures, trade goods, and ideas to bring fabulous Art and Science creations to the populace. Use your creativity, and ingenuity to craft entries in A&S that will help make the Mists a more Beautiful and Knowledgeable Principality.
Competition Eight ~ Ring of Fire 7th to 16th Centuries
What medieval wonders can you discover in the Ring of Fire (modern day: New Zealand, Polynesia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, parts of Russia, Alaska and the West Coast of the Americas)? Contemplate kingdoms and cultures from the 600s to the Age of Exploration and help to share the historic arts and sciences of this incredible region to bring to light more Beauty and Knowledge to the Mists.
The Shire of Wolfscairn has a vibrant Arts & Sciences community. Our Sunday practices are for Arts & Science as well as combat. People weave, make leather shoes, create new armor, draft calligraphy, paint illuminations, and more.
We host an additional monthly Arts & Sciences Workshop outside of practice. Sometimes there is a directed class, sometimes it's a communal work day. See our Shire of Wolfscairn Facebook Group for the most up to date information on these events or email our Arts & Sciences Minister.
At our Quarterly Stafnbui Practice Tournament now includes an Arts & Sciences Division. The format of the competition will be determined by the previous winner.

Once a month (or more) our Shire hosts an informal class or workshop outside of practice.
Past events have included instruction on knotted bead work, wax hardened leather elbow cops, spear construction, and fire cider for what ails you.

At our Quarterly StafnBui Practice Tournament we have an Arts & Sciences division. The format of the competition is determined by the previous winner, who may not compete. Previous CraftnBuis have been held in the style of Athena. A wide range of entries have graced our tables. The winner carries a medallion, crafted by one of our Laurels, until the next winner is chosen.
