Assessing student's knowledge and understanding is a cornerstone of planning and adjusting plans for teachers, gathering data on students over time, and giving feedback. Feedback is what helps kids grow.
Google Forms is an easy and great way to assess student learning with various types of questions:
Multiple Choice, drop down, M/C grid (for matching)
Check all that apply, Check all grid (for matching)
Short answer and paragraph answer
To Get Started, go to Google Drive. Click New, go down to More, and choose Forms.
Create Questions
Click the Settings Gear (top Right)
Choose the tab that says "Quizzes"
Turn on Quiz. Choose your settings
For each question, click "Answer Key". Give the question a correct answer and a point value. If it's short answer or long answer, give it a point value still but no correct answer. You can grade these easily after.

Written feedback is great to personalize or use automatic feedback options to help kids learn from their mistakes or make revisions.

Add "Incorrect" feedback on questions in Forms. If a student answers it incorrectly, direct them to a video in Khan academy, a reading, or a page in a book to review and relearn the content.
