What a pleasure it is to introduce myself as your 6th grade Digital Literacy and Home and Careers Teacher!! I am so excited for the upcoming school year and I am making exciting plans for learning and fun together in the classroom. Both of the classes that I teach are really important for all students because they teach important life skills that help you become a successful adult. Before you know it you will be taking care of yourselves and the more skills you have with time management, keyboarding, decision making, grocery shopping, budgeting, cooking, (to name a few), the easier your transition to adulthood will be! When I plan what I want to teach my students, I think about my own two children and what I wanted them to know for their future success. This really helps me to create meaningful lessons that connect to the real world!
I have been teaching in West Genesee for 10 years. I am originally from New Hampshire and have lived in many different states before settling here in New York. I am married and have two children, Emma and Nicholas who are 24 and 22. Emma has graduated from college and is an ENL teacher in Syracuse City Schools and Nicholas is a senior in college. I love to be active- I play tennis and love to ride my bike. I enjoy being outside taking my dog for hikes and I love to work in my garden. I consider myself a lucky person that I have created a life and a career I really enjoy. This is my hope for my students - that they find places to live and work that make them feel successful and happy.
I am looking forward to meeting you all!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bates
