Foods 1 is a high school level course offered as an elective to sophomores, juniors and seniors. This course is designed as a higher level cooking course for students who will soon be on their own. The course is broken down into different units focussing on food production. Each unit has classroom study and work followed by cooking labs designed to enhance the learning of the subject covered. It is a hands on class that requires class participation, tests, quizzes, homework and a desire to learn about and try new foods.
The final for the class is a cooking competition designed like the TV show Chopped. Each student will be in a team competing against other teams to make a meal based on a mystery box of ingredients. Student will get an opportunity to show what they have learned over the semester in this competition.
