Strawberry Sales and Kiss the Pig
The Western Christian FFA had an opportunity as a chapter to raise money for the Van Surksums and Rozebooms. Both familes have experienced the lose of a husband and father and are near and dear to the Western community.
To raise money, we sold strawberries in the month of January and donated all profits to these individuals. As a chapter we sold over 100 flats of strawberries, which was over $1,300 in profits.
During FFA week we hosted a change war for our Kiss the Pig Challenge. The student body voted between three people using their spare change to see who would Kiss the Pig after Ag Olympics on Friday of FFA Week. After a week of the change war Josh Petit, a senior at Western, was the champion of the war. He got to hold and kiss a weaned pig in front of the student body.
The change war raised over $700 in total. Our FFA Chapter decided to match this amount and donate $700 as well. In the end we were able to write a $1500 check to Lisa and a $1500 check to Levi to help with the additional costs of medical bills.
