Happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs Walker's class colored a turkey in morning meeting today and wrote three things they are thankful for in Spanish on the feathers. Mrs. Cleary's class will do the same thing on Monday and Ms. Lacey's class will do it on Tuesday, so check back to see more photos added to the folder.Â
Day of the Dead DĂa de los Muertos
Students in all grades has fun learning about the Day of the Dead! We talked about the holiday in class during the week of 10/31-11/4, but the holiday itself takes place on 11/1 and 11/2. It is celebrated in Mexico and some Central American countries (Mexican Americans in the US often celebrate as well). They celebrate the lives of their ancestors and loves ones who have passed away. A main symbol of the holiday is the calavera - the skull. Skulls and skeletons are bright, festives, and colorful, as opposed to our spooky Halloween skeletons. Students made their own color by number skulls in class. Kindergartens skull was a little different with no color by number. Grade 4 also did a little comparison of Halloween and Day of the Dead with a venn diagram. Check out their work below!

Mrs. Bornholm's class
Below are a couple of videos of Brennen and Maya from Mrs. Bornholm's class. In the first video, they are sharing their dialogue aloud to the class (and basically know it from memory!). The second video is a sample of Brennen reading a book in Spanish to our pen pals in Chile.

Students in third grade doing a movement break - count to 100 in Spanish!
The calming corner is a space in my room where students can go if they need a break. They can color, do some figure 8 breathing, hug the dog, squeeze the stress ball, or watch the bubbles move when they flip the penguin toy.
Grade 4 is practicing the numbers 1-12 by rolling a dice with another dice inside of it and saying the sum aloud in Spanish
Grade 4 played a game called "Manos a la Cabeza" where I say a word and the first person to hit the correct one wins that round. I select a different person to play against the winner.
Here is an example of Natalie and Damarion playing Manos a la Cabeza!
I have been joining Mrs. Bornholm's class on Tuesdays and Thursdays for ALL block. We have incorporated a Spanish station and are recording videos of ourselves reading books in English and Spanish...
... We will be sharing our recordings with a class in Chile! They are also recording books to send back to us! I am hoping to do this with every third grade class.
Fourth graders practicing numbers 0-15 with basic math.
Grade 3 doing a greeting around the circle and using popsicle sticks to pick the next person to greet.
