We will share our favorite colors using the verb "me gusta", meaning I like. We also use the colors to actually do some coloring!
Note that here are different ways to say the same color depending on the country. Some people say rosa instead of rosado. Café can be marrón or castaño. Morado can be purpura or violeta. Anaranjado can be naranja. The list in the image are the words that I am using for each color, but just know that there are often different ways of saying things!
¿Cómo estás? = How are you?
¡Estoy muy bien! = I'm really good!
Estoy bien. = I'm good.
Estoy más o menos. = I'm ok.
Estoy mal. = I'm bad.
Tengo hambre. = I'm hungry
Tengo sed. = I'm thirsty.
Estoy cansado / cansada. = I'm tired.
Los números The numbers
Last year, students learned to count to 10. We will be learning to count to 39 or even 30.
We talk a lot about the calendar this year, including days of the week and months of the year. We also use the calendar as an opportunity to practice numbers up to 31 and colors, as well as to talk about holidays in Spanish-speaking countries.
¿Cuántos años tienes? How old are you?
Last year, students sang along with this catchy tune and learned how to say their own age in Spanish. Tengo ____ años = I am ______ years old. Add "y medio" to the end to say "and a half". This year, they wrote all about themselves and this was one of the questions that they answered.
Cognates
Did you know that there are tons of Spanish words that you can figure out just by looking at them? Students are learning about cognates, or as we sometimes refer to them, "Super C's". Check out the video with examples of cognates and false cognates.
