How violent is our Earth? How do we know? How do we quantify this geographic “violence” we see when tectonic disaster happen? Most important though, how can we predict when these disasters will happen again? In this studio we will be exploring volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis to find how, why, and when we can expect these tectonic disasters to happen again. If we can assess the risk, then we might be able to save lives before another one hits.

To the left is our West Ada Academies Learning Cycle. This course is designed with content that fits into one of five categories: Engage, Explore, Practice, Apply, and Reflect. You will move through the stages of the learning cycle as you engage in the studio's driving questions, and then learn, practice, and apply the target skills listed above. When you get to the apply stage, you will showcase your learning or use another method to show what you can do or what you know. Finally, at each Milestone and again at the end of the studio, you will reflect on your project and what you have learned.
