Empathy: The ability to take on the perspective of others.
When we communicate with people, often the missing piece is empathy, the ability to see what they see. For example, if you are turning in an assignment and the teacher cannot look at it right away, a student response might be... "Hey! I worked hard on that. You're the teacher- look at it now!" The teacher's perspective is, "I have 100 of them to look at. You are not at the top of the list right now. I will look when I have time." If both use empathy, what would that look like?
You have been communicating for a while now with adults, peers, teachers, parents... the list goes on. Did you know every time you have a conversation, digital or face-to-face, you are leaving an impression about who you are? From the way you choose your words to the little non-verbal things like facial expressions, it gives an impression. Let's make sure you are leaving the impression that is most helpful for you and your future. The video goes over the best ways to communicate!
