There are things we can control and things we cannot. However, we have the power to change our mindsets, our actions and words.
Steven Covey has written a book called "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" and he covers this very topic in Habit 1: Be Proactive. The video talks about what we can and what we cannot control. Watch the video and decide what you have control over.
You have the ability to know where you are in your high school career and have the ability to address feedback and get better!
Slate gives you the opportunity to see where you are in reaching your academic goals!
Anytime you submit an assignment, you will get feedback. At the Academies, we believe in giving feedback that will propel you toward success and in order to take advantage of that, we do what is called "revision". This is a cycle, not a one and done.
An example could be: You spend time on a project for English. You submit that assignment and get some feedback that you need to look at. You make those changes (revise). You submit again. You keep trying at the project until you have fulfilled those skill requirements. This is different from what you are probably used to (get the grade and move on). We want you to know exactly what you need to do to improve.
Below is a picture of how you can track where you are and what skills are needed for improvement. This is called a continua/ continuum. For example, if your goal is to reach a level 8, you need to reach each goal in 4, 6, and 8.
