This English course is not your standard high school course. We want you to work through the course materials online at your own pace and in the way that is most efficient given your prior knowledge and personal learning style. Remember though, there must be a pace.
You do have more flexibility than you do in a traditional course, which means you have more responsibility for your own learning. You will need to:
- Plan how to work through each module.
- Determine how to use the various features of the course to help you learn.
- Decide when you need teacher support and seek out that help- you know how to motivate yourself best!
What You Need to Know About Each Unit
Each module in this course has features to support you as an independent learner, including:
- Engage: This is the invitation to you, the learner to make personal connections to the topic and recognize that you probably already have some knowledge of the material. Let's build on that!
- Explore: Now that you've discovered what you already know, the explore page provides you with opportunities for learning experiences. The goal is to generate curiosity in order for learning to be truly personal and meaningful to you. This page may also include vocabulary.
- Practice: Explore and Practice may overlap because naturally as you explore and become curious you are definitely practicing your learning! Practice will involve discussion questions that are designed to connect you with other learners and give you the opportunity to exchange ideas. Additionally, this page will provide opportunity for independent exploration.
- Apply: Now it's time to show off! This page is where you will be asked to create a product that successfully showcases the skills you have strengthened and developed throughout the course. Product options will encourage you to draw from your life experiences and your new knowledge to influence your final product in a unique, meaningful, and relevant way.
