Adversity & Diversity

West Ada Academies 2018-2019

Welcome to English 10A: Adversity & Diversity! Below are some helpful tips to guide you through the course.

To the left is a learning cycle. This course is designed with content that fits into one of five categories: Engage, Explore, Practice, Apply, and Reflect. You will see the different tabs within four modules. When you get to the apply stage, you will be given a performance task. This will allow you to show what you know.

When you see the green icon stating "ENGAGE," this means that the content is meant to activate prior knowledge and build background knowledge on unit's topic.

When you see the yellow icon stating "EXPLORE," this means that the content is meant to deepen your knowledge of the unit's topic. The content encourages you to investigate the topic by asking important questions and evaluating multiple sources and/or points of view.

When you see the purple icon stating "PRACTICE," this means that you will be given an assignment that will check your understanding of the course material up until that point. Assignments are to be completed, saved, and turned into Slate classroom.

When you see the pink icon stating "APPLY," this means that you will be given a task that will assess your level of understanding of the course material and your ability to create an original product that showcases your skills. There are a total of two Performance Tasks per course and one Capstone Project.
