In this Milestone, we will examine how the use of persuasive appeals and techniques can be used to change a person's beliefs or actions. Oftentimes, persuasive techniques rely on fear to be effective. This Milestone is all about identifying persuasive techniques and their effectiveness, whether they utilize fear, hope, sympathy, or any other approach.
Stepping Stone 1: I can make meaning of words based on scheme and context clues.

Step 1: Read "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe. Located to the right

Step 2: open the Google slide located to your right and follow the directions.
Step 3: As you read through the text complete the worksheet below.
Step 4: Once completed turn the worksheet in through Slate.

Step 2: Make a copy and complete the required slides.
Step 3: Watch the video about how to write a PEEL response. You will use this technique to answer the questions within this PT.
Step 4: Double check your work and turn into Slate.
Step 5: Check for grading and record scores onto your credit slip.
Step 6: Discuss scores with your teacher before moving on to your next Milestone.
*Remember the performance task is the opportunity to show what you know and demonstrate you have mastered the content. Take your time and turn in your BEST work.

Before moving onto the next Milestone complete the following steps:
Open the Competency Dashboard in Slate.
Get your ELA credit slip.
Using the scores in the Competency Dashboard fill in your credit slip.
Conference with your teacher about your score and how that translates into a percentage.
If you are happy with your grade move onto the next Milestone. If you are unhappy revise a Performance task and resubmit. Once you are satisfied with your grade move onto the next Milestone.
