4th GRADE - IDEAS FOR SUMMER
Below you will find a few resources for summer activities. These ideas are by no means mandatory and we encourage families to provide students with adequate and much-needed time to rest throughout the summer break, perhaps peppering in any or none of the activities below wherever helpful.
WRITING

- Students can write and send letters to a friend or family member.
- Students can practice writing regularly in a summer writing journal.
- Respond to a writing prompt (some ideas here)
- Free write about their experiences.
- Be sure to talk about the role of revision and editing, emphasizing that writing is a process and it is not finished perfectly the first time.
READING

- Students should try to read chapter books at their reading level
- Students can read the same book as a friend and discuss what they think, like an informal book club.
- Popular books for 4th grade students include the Harry Potter series, Percy Jackson series, Babysitters Club series

- Pick recipe for backing or cooking and calculate the amount of ingredients if you try doubling or halve the recipe.
