4th GRADE - IDEAS FOR SUMMER

Below you will find a few resources for summer activities. These ideas are by no means mandatory and we encourage families to provide students with adequate and much-needed time to rest throughout the summer break, perhaps peppering in any or none of the activities below wherever helpful.

WRITING

  • Students can write and send letters to a friend or family member.
  • Students can practice writing regularly in a summer writing journal.
    • Respond to a writing prompt (some ideas here)
    • Free write about their experiences.
  • Be sure to talk about the role of revision and editing, emphasizing that writing is a process and it is not finished perfectly the first time.

READING

  • Students should try to read chapter books at their reading level
  • Students can read the same book as a friend and discuss what they think, like an informal book club.
    • Popular books for 4th grade students include the Harry Potter series, Percy Jackson series, Babysitters Club series
