Wes-Del Elementary uses a number of community businesses and partnerships to help make what we’re doing possible. These partnerships have helped to fund STEM activities, give feedback on student projects and feedback on the STEM curriculum at Wes-Del as a whole. Our partners are also helping run stations during our STEM Day, presenting to our students, and offering field trip opportunities for our students. The community involvement is strong at Wes-Del Elementary!
The careers our students learn about through our STEM Curriculum, are local to the State of Indiana, and educate students on the salary of the careers. Additionally, the Career Connection informs which Indiana College or University students could attend, should they want to pursue a career in this field down the road. Therefore, every CREATE2THINK unit has a STEM Career Connection document embedded within.
We are truly blessed to have so many amazing community partners, members, organizations willing to dedicate time to share their knowledge and experiences with our students. The engagement they provide is what make our STEM programming successful at Wes-Del Elementary.
STEM is the climate of our school and therefore it is important to us to provide students with opportunities to inspire and inform underrepresented student groups about careers in STEM fields.
Classroom teachers provide ample experiences for students to apply STEM knowledge and skills throughout each week, and learn about STEM careers through STEM professionals, field trips, etc. Students are submerged in STEM during STEM Day, a full day of stations of different activities of STEM and exploration of STEM careers.
