The Process
You have up to three years to complete the four Components
Component 1: Content Knowledge
Component 2: Differentiation in Instruction
Component 3: Teaching Practice and Learning Environment
Component 4: Effective and Reflective Practitioner
Before you register to be a candidate:
Review online information at
Board Certified Teachers
about becoming an NBCT
study the
Standards for your Certificate Area
,
Architecture of Teaching
and
Five Core Propositions
review the Component directions so you know what you need to do
talk to other candidates to understand the work involved
Register with the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards:
usually opens March 1
You will need to register as a candidate to be eligible for:
Wenatchee SD support
Conditional Loan from OSPI
Jump Start from WEA
After you register you can:
study the Standards for your Certificate Area
study the Component Directions and decide what Components to work on
June, July or August:
Attend Jump Start sponsored by WEA (highly recommended, not required, see support page)
September:
Wenatchee School District Support begins
October - May:
complete your chosen Components
March:
Attend Home Stretch (highly recommended, not required, see support page)
sponsored by Washington Education Association
one day of Component feedback with a facilitator in your cert area
one session in Eastern Washington
one session in Western Washington
mid-May:
submit your completed Components
April to mid-June:
Complete Assessment Center for Component 1 (if chosen)
By December 31:
scores are released
