What do I need to do to renew my certificate?

If your NBCT certificate is expiring in 2022 you only have the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) option available to renew.

  • Directions will be available September 2020.

  • The cost is $495 plus a $75 registration fee.

  • Two components:

    • Description of two Professional Growth Experiences (PGEs)

    • Create a lesson based on one PGE, video the lesson and analyze video.

  • The MOC is good for five years.

The Process

  • Begin renewal process after your 8th or 9th year

    • recommended after 8th year so you have two possible chances to renew

    • If not renewed by certificate expiration day, you need to do complete certification process

  • Timeline:

    • start in September of 8th (or 9th) year

    • Portfolio due mid-May

    • Scores released in late October

Support

  • Wenatchee School District facilitation support is available. There are three facilitation meetings and feedback provided by the facilitator.

  • Washington Education Association provides facilitation support. It is called Maintenance of Certificate Jump Start and it is a one-day training during the summer. WEA also provides Maintenance of Certificate Home Stretch in the spring. Check the WEA Certification website for more information.

    • Note: MOC Jump Start opportunities will be online during Summer 2020.

  • Renewal candidates can access the $1000 per year Professional Growth Reimbursement to pay for NBCT renewal expenses. This can be used for Component fees, yearly registration fee, facilitation fees, WEA Jump Start and WEA Home Stretch fees.

The Cost

  • Current Maintenance of Certificate cost: $495 + $75 registration fee.

  • WSD Facilitation Support cost: $150

  • WEA Jumpstart: $50
