Counseling For Your Child

As an elementary school counselor, it is my job to help students gain skills, knowledge and abilities to help them solve current challenges and prepare them for future challenges.

Individual Counseling: If your child child has a short-term problem or needs some skills to be successful in their academic, career or social emotional development, I can help. I see students individually for about 4-6 sessions. Your child and I work on creating a goal, they learn the skills they need and we practice their new skills. School counseling services are NOT a substitute for diagnosis or treatment for any mental disorder. For longer term or more severe problems, I recommend seeing an outside counselor who can deliver more intensive support.

Group Counseling: Sometimes students have similar challenges and it is more effective to see all of the students in the a group for about 6-8 times. We work on things like friendship skills, communication and self-esteem.


Sometimes I will see a student once or twice because a problem came up. If it is not serious, I try to send a note home with the student to share with their parent or guardian. If a problem requires me to meet with the student more than that, I have the parent or guardian sign a consent form. Here is the form:
