Parent's Guide to Gangs
Guía para padres sobre las pandillas.
Introduction:
Research indicates that parents play an important role in keeping youth out of
gangs. Certain negative factors —including domestic violence, child
abuse, harsh or inconsistent parenting, and/or drug/alcohol abuse by
family members—can increase the risk that a youth will join a gang.
Parents can protect their children from gang activity through taking positive actions,
such as monitoring their children’s activities, maintaining close relationships with
them, and using positive discipline strategies.

Las investigaciones indican que los padres juegan un papel importante en mantener a los jóvenes fuera de
pandillas. Ciertos factores negativos, incluyendo la violencia doméstica, el
abuso, crianza dura o inconsistente, y/o abuso de drogas/alcohol por
miembros de la familia—pueden aumentar el riesgo de que un joven se una a una pandilla.
Los padres pueden proteger a sus hijos de la actividad de las pandillas tomando medidas positivas,
tales como monitorear las actividades de sus hijos, mantener relaciones cercanas con
ellos, y el uso de estrategias de disciplina positiva.

But as you can imagine this all starts at home and out in the community, so we ask you to please be aware of what goes on in your child's life and support them in every possible way.
Let's help our children go down the right path, let's stay involved in their lives from the beginning, it all starts when they're young: hang out with them, sign them up for sports (there are many scholarships and financial assistance programs available), ask where they're going, who they're hanging out with, know what they're doing, pay attention to what they do and what they wear. Remember it all starts at home and parents you have the power to guide your children down the correct path.

Pero como puede imaginar, todo comienza en el hogar y en la comunidad, por lo que le pedimos que esté al tanto de lo que sucede en la vida de su hijo y lo apoye de todas las formas posibles.
Ayudemos a nuestros hijos a ir por el camino correcto, mantengámonos involucrados en sus vidas desde el principio, todo comienza cuando estan jóvenes: pasemos el rato con ellos, hay que inscribirlos en deportes (hay muchas becas y programas de asistencia financiera disponibles)
pregunte a dónde van, con quién andan, sepa lo que hacen, preste atención a lo que hacen y lo que visten. Recuerden que todo comienza en casa y padres ustedes tienen el poder de guiar a sus hijos por el camino correcto.
