Useful information and Home Learning

In this section, you will find useful information around what your child will be doing each term. Here we will outline your child's spellings, homework, PE days and books that we are sharing in class. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Important days for your child

In Robin Class, we do PE on a Monday and a Friday. Please send your children in to school in their PE kits.

Homework

Thank you for agreeing to read with your child.

Year 1 is a really important stage of their life, being able to read fluently and with understanding is so important to your child's learning journey.

Please continue to hear your child read at least three times a week and try to share as many stories as possible, that would be great.

As always, being able to read and write common exception words will really support you child with their writing. If you can practise these as well we would really appreciate it.

Spellings

Throughout Year 1 we learn to read and spell the Common Exception Words. If your child can already read these words, please help them to learn the spelling.

Reading at Home

Children will bring home a reading book, which will be closely matched to their phonics knowledge. They should be able to read this with a high level of fluency. Once they have read this book several times (to improve fluency and comprehension) we will swap it for a new one. They will also bring home a sharing book, of their choice, from the library. They are not expected to read this independently, it can be read to them by an adult.

See information about Reading below.

Book of the term

In Robin class, we are reading lots of books about different animals. Encouraging children to find different facts about different animals, reading sharing books or finding books about animals in the local library are great ways to help them develop their knowledge, understanding and passion around learning about animals.
