The internship year is organized into three phases. We follow a "ramp" model that gradually increases your responsibilities over the year as you build the requisite skills and experiences.
During the fall semester, you will spend at least three hours and up to one full day each week in the classroom. You will build community with your Teacher Scholars cohort through participation in a weekly seminar as well as a collaborative teaching lab where you will develop your teaching skills with the support of your peers.
Teacher Scholars return to campus in January when public schools reopen after winter break so that they can begin the practicum stage of their internship - engaging in full-time teaching. From early January through the start of the Wellesley spring semester, you are in the classroom for the full day, Monday through Friday. This is an exciting pivot point as you become fully immersed in the classroom. EDUC 399H is a half-unit course that offers you course credit for the Wintersession practicum.
With the start of the Wellesley spring semester, you will continue full-time teaching, Monday through Thursday. You will spend Friday mornings meeting with your cohort to discuss your experiences in the classroom, make plans for your gradual role as lead teacher, and engage in inquiry-based research grounded in your classroom practice. At the end of the semester, Teacher Scholars will present their inquiry-based research in an annual Teaching Symposium.
