Students will be able to independently check in and out books so they can come to the library whenever they would like a new book. This will promote independence and problem-solving skills as well as a love for reading. Independent self check in and out will be scaffolded and taught to students in the first couple months of school. There will be set structures taught to students in order for this to be successful. Students will be taught how to independently walk to the library, find good fit books and learn how to check in and out books.
Classes will sign up for 15 minute book check in/out time. The library aide will support students as they practice skills to successfully check in and out books. In addition to this time, students are encouraged to come to the library whenever they would like a book.
All classes will need to participate in library orientation before we can begin check out. Please sign up below for library orientation. If these times do not work for you, please let me know so we can find a time that will.
Throughout the year we will work together to plan times for us to work on collaborative lessons and learn how to utilize various resources. This will promote a knowledge base of resources so students will be able to utilize these skills within your classroom lessons or during PBL projects. In an effort to get to know the needs of our growing staff and students, my schedule will be flexible to best serve everyone's needs. I will be stopping into your classrooms to get to know you better, your teaching style as well as get to know your students.
Beyond the times for collaborative lessons and skill-building around using the resources in the library, the doors will always be open. It is my hope to see students and teachers utilize the library and its resources whenever needed.
