Meet the Directors
Cory Swanson, WMS
Cory Swanson is the band and orchestra teacher at Windsor Middle School. He's been teaching there for a very long time (16 years!) He has degrees in music education from UNC and CSU, but college feels like a long time ago, now. He plays percussion and viola and owns a boss collection of guitars. In his free time, he writes, runs, and goes camping. He can't wait to meet all of you and get to work teaching music in the fall.
Britt-marie Sawyer, SMS
Britt Sawyer is the band and orchestra teacher at Severance Middle School. She has been a music educator for 15 years and has been at SMS since it opened in 2010. She has a Bachelor of Music Ed from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Music Ed from the American Band College at Central Washington University. When she isn't teaching, Ms. Sawyer plays percussion with the Fort Collins Wind Symphony and is an avid disc golfer. You can usually find her chasing frisbees in a local park or course with her husband, Ian, on the weekend.
Becky Pollyea, WMS
Becky Pollyea is the Vocal Music and Drama teacher at Windsor Middle School. She also coaches the Musical Theater Club. She has a BFA in Music Dance Theater from Brigham Young University and is currently pursuing a Master of Music Education degree from Southern Utah University. She taught and directed choir and/or drama in Colorado, Wisconsin, Vermont, and Utah. She also taught private voice lessons for 11 years from her home studio. Her last performance role was playing a singing/dancing nun in the musical Sister Act. She loves directing the choirs at WMS and her classroom mantra is "Everyone has a voice!"
Cathy Verbyla, SMS
Cathy Verbyla is the 6th-8th Vocal, 8th grade Orchestral, and Drama Club teacher at Severance Middle School. Ms. Verbyla will be entering her 5th year of education, and has taught at SMS since 2018. She has a Bachelor of Music Education from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and a Master's degree in French horn Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. Ms. Verbyla is active in a wide variety of ensembles, from choirs like Cantabile in Boulder, and as the Music Director at the Arts Hub in Lafayette. Cathy has even played as a hornist at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England! The new year holds so much potential, and Cathy is looking forward to sharing the worlds of theater and music with you all.
