English II

American Literature is the focus of English II. The course covers texts ranging from from the Colonial era through the late 20th century, including drama, speeches, a novel, and poetry. These texts will provide context for the types of skills used in an English classroom. Close reading and annotation strategies, and a focus on vocabulary development through root words are strongly emphasized in this preparation. 

The goal of this course is to continue to build upon your skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening as students engage in complex texts, ideas, and tasks. You will employ strategies in reading and analyzing literature; writing research essays, narratives, and emails; and participate in complex discussions about course texts.  You will make connections between the texts, yourselves, and our world as you explore the changing values of American society over time as a lens for your own growth and experiences in an effort to apply class concepts to your future goals.   

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to use your skills of reading, writing, vocabulary acquisition, and more not only in future English classes, but in all academic settings as well as everyday life. The outcomes of this course should be applied to whatever type of future you choose to pursue after high school.
