English 7

Our class will focus on four core skills of ELA class: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Through reading both fiction and nonfiction texts, students will be asked to make connections between the text and themselves, other texts, and our world. We will read during class to ensure understanding and to practice literal and inferential reading skills. We will regularly write shorter submissions as comprehension checks. Vocabulary studies will build confidence with writing through the understanding of root word families and morphing words to different parts of speech with derivation. Students will show their knowledge of themes, characters, and societal values in a variety of creative outputs. Discussions in our class help to increase our understanding of the texts and help us hone in on soft skills as well.
