Music Production

AMM 1O0

Students will begin using available digital recording equipment and editing software to create original compositions, following the various techniques studied. Students will investigate copyright law in Canada in order to defend their use of sampling of other musician’s creative work. Students will use/incorporate feedback from others to further refine and improve their compositions.

Grade 9 Instrumental Music: AMI 1O0

This course emphasizes the creation and performance of instrumental music at a level consistent with previous experience and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of the conventions and elements of music and of safe practices related to music, and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their life.

Grade 9 Guitar: AMG 1O0

This course emphasizes performance of guitar music at a level consistent with previous experience that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.

Grade 9 Piano: AMK 1O0

This course emphasizes the creation and performance of piano music at a level consistent with previous experience. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop their understanding of musical conventions, practices, and terminology and apply the elements of music in a range of activities. They will also explore the function of music in society with reference to the self, communities, and cultures.

Grade 9 Vocal Music: AMV 1O0

This course emphasizes the creation and performance of vocal music at a level consistent with previous experience. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop their understanding of musical conventions, practices, and terminology and apply the elements of music in a range of activities. Students will perform works at a level consistent with previous experience. Independently and collaboratively, students will use current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce and present musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyse music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.

This course develops students' artistic knowledge and skills through the performance of guitar music and the preparation of music productions. Students will perform appropriate works, particularly works in contemporary popular styles. Independently and in groups, they will also plan, and perform music performances, making use of appropriate technology, and will evaluate the results.
