Introduction to Health Science - This is a full-year health class that focuses on teaching about the entire body as well as medical terminology and medical careers. This is a class for those who want more of a challenge than regular health and/or those interested in going into the medical field. This class fulfills the . 5 Health 2 requirement and gives .5 credit for CTE, both required for graduation. It is recommended that this class be taken during Sophomore year, but it can be taken later. This is the first course required for students wanting to participate in the NUAMES Pre-Medical Pathway.
Medical Anatomy and Physiology (MAP) - This course provides a review of health technology and medical fields with opportunities for career exploration and clinical experiences in a variety of medical and health care professions. The curriculum includes a detailed study of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pathophysiology, and medical ethics. Students successfully completing the course requirements are eligible to receive 2 Concurrent Enrollment College credits for the Weber State HTHS 1101 Medical terminology class and a high school science credit. Students also receive Utah State Office of Education CTE Skill Certification in Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology. This is the second course required to participate in the NUAMES Pre-Medical Pathway.
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) - This is a semester course that aligns with RHS 2300 with Weber State. This 3-credit course teaches the students about what to do in an emergency, how to be the most help, and how to give emergency care until a more advanced healthcare team arrives. If the students attend 95% of the classes, do all of the skills required, and pass the midterm and final they can receive their BLS for CPR/AED & First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and oxygen administration certificates. This is one of the two elective courses for the NUAMES Pre-Medical pathway program.
Nutrition - This class is aligned with Weber State's Nut 1020 class and counts as a Life Science credit toward an associate's or bachelor's degree. Students will learn about the major nutrients the body needs, the chemical way in which the body utilizes these nutrients, and the types of diseases and disorders that can develop when underconsumption or overconsumption occurs.
