Sixth Form Centre
We are proud to offer the very broad range of subjects and opportunities available on both our International Baccalaureate Diploma and A Level programmes. These aim to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of learners from all secondary schools across the bailiwick and beyond, and we are delighted that our examination results and recent validation report demonstrate how successfully we do so.
There is much more to the Sixth Form experience than the subjects you will take. We provide a caring, inclusive and supportive environment in which to learn. This is most evident in the positive feedback we regularly receive from our students, many of whom willingly volunteer to help within the school and beyond, supporting their peers and the wider community. We provide excellent up-to-date facilities and a secure, yet challenging, learning environment, in which we find our students flourish as they grow into mature, independent learners.
Beyond your studies there are numerous enrichment opportunities on offer, ranging from sport, drama and music to trips and expeditions, the Young Enterprise scheme, the Institute of Directors Management Shadowing scheme, the Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Awards, Student Voice representation and the opportunity to contribute to the school community as a prefect.
A Level and IB Diploma results 2017
The Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre is delighted to announce this year’s excellent Sixth Form results.
A Level results
The pass rate has risen to 99.5% (1% higher than last year) and there has been a significant increase in the highest grades with 29.5% of grades at A*/A. The school has recorded some of its best results since 2009 with over 86% of grades at A*-C and 61.2% at A*-B.
Kieran James, Deputy Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form Studies, stated “We are delighted with this year’s excellent results, which are testament to our students’ and teachers’ commitment and dedication, as well as to the culture of independent learning that has continued to develop in the Sixth Form. These results look set to build upon last year’s impressive Level 3 Value Added measure, which would place our school in the top 12% of similar Sixth Forms in the UK in terms of student progress.”
Liz Coffey, Headteacher said “The students should be congratulated on their achievements at A Level, which when added to the similarly impressive results for the IB Diploma demonstrate the thriving learning community within the school. As the Bailiwick provider of academic post-16 courses, students from a wide range of backgrounds have made excellent progress, thanks to the support they receive from their tutors, teachers and parents/carers.”
This year’s cohort of 17 IB students at the Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre achieved an average point score of 31.4. This compares with the average point score worldwide of 29.95.
All the students who completed the Diploma Programme this year achieved at least 24 points, with the highest being 39 out of 45 diploma points, equivalent to more than 4 A* grades at A Level. The table below outlines the results for these students:
