For shoot 1 I will be photographing under my chosen theme for the year 'Dreams'. This is my first shoot it will be very experimental. I will use the camera using a variety of different camera shots and techniques, under my theme investigation and the conventions learned in class. This will help introduce me back to using the camera and figuring out what particular style of photo I like/dont like. There is no artist model for this shoot as it will be purely experimental.
This shoot was important as it allowed me to experiment with different camera conventions learned in class while letting me have an initial investigation of my theme of dreams. I did struggle with this shoot because I feel as though the photos taken are very basic. The lighting was not the best which I think decreases the potential of the shots a lot. The overall aesthetic of the photos is not the best just very basic. This was definitely due to the location of the shoot which was at my grandparent's house, if this was at a different time of day or different location the photos may have had more potential. Besides the photos not being my favorite, I feel that as a first experimental shoot, it is good. It will now help me refine what look I want for future shoots. Additionally, no artist model was selected or needed for this shoot, therefore I felt slightly lost in what direction to go in and instead was just taking 'random' photos of everything I saw.
For shoot 2 I will be investigating the artist model Wayne Wilson Wong. To experiment with his techniques and style of photography I will be taking my photos around Hamilton Lake as the location. The Lake has a wide view span of the city and skyline which is an essential aspect of Wayne Wilson Wong's work. I will be photographing during the evening into nightfall to ensure I have an opportunity to capture the sunset, another key convention of Wayne's work. I will focus on looking at the landscape and experimenting with colour and exposure using different settings on the camera. This shoot will hopefully help aid in taking my theme of dreams in a strong direction using the outdoors and nature as a new aspect.

Mt Hobson over Rangitoto 2007
Castor Bay Point North Shore
This shoot worked out really well and is my favorite so far. The overall aesthetic and composition of the pictures I was taking were far more my style and what I had envisioned for my theme of dreams. There were only a few problems that I ran into with shooting at night e.g. I would have liked to have had a tripod so keeping the camera still to avoid blurry pictures was easier. Using Wayne Wilson Wong as an artist model also went well. I feel my photos reflect his work and the key techniques he uses well. This shoot has taken my work in a new direction.
My artist model model for shoot 3 is Andre Kertesz - still life. To investigate Andre Kertesz's work I will be experimenting with techniques such as light, shadows, and texture. This shoot will be done at school during class time. I will place my objects using purposeful arrangements outside the classroom in the afternoon sun to help enhance the cast of shadows. I will incorporate natural elements such as flowers in a vase, as well as texture e.g lace fabric, and lay a friend's braid down to showcase different textures (natural and artificial). This shoot is still under my theme of dreams. My goal for this shoot is to express my interpretation in a physical arrangement of what our brains piece together to create an image of a dream.

Fork, Paris 1928
Chez Mondrain 1926
This shoot was taken at school during class time. It overall turned out quite well, however, I wasn't sure how it would look at the start as I was struggling to set up the lace and vase in a way that was how I visualized it would look. However, I love the light and shadows aspect of how it came out. It adds depth to the pictures that I took. I dont like the colors and overall composition of the shoot so it's not my favorite shoot. Using Andre Kertesz as an artist model did work well as it was a new approach using still life and definitely challenged my skills as it wasn't something I had experimented with before. I also changed the pictures I took to be black and white which is a large aspect of Andre Kertez's work, I did this by editing the photos after selecting my favorites and adjusting them in camera raw. After doing this shoot I feel that if I were to explore more still-life artist models I would feel more confident in a shoot like this.
The artist model Jerry Takigawa - still life will be used for shoot 4. To apply Jerry Takigawa's techniques I will use large A3 printed landscape images from my shoot 2 Wayne Wilson Wong shoot. To help blend this shoot so that it works cohesively with my other previous shoots, I will use flowers which are also seen in shoot 3. I incorporate purposeful arrangement of the flowers on the printed images to be the focal point of the photos. The shoot will be done at school during class time.

This shoot was taken at school. I used techniques by the artist model Jerry Takigawa. To achieve this I printed off pictures from shoot two and then placed real flowers on top to enhance the image underneath. I do like how the flowers look on top of the pictures. However, the overall look of how they turned out is not my favorite and also doesn't fit my theme of dreams well enough. I would say that I prefer the Andre Kertez still-life shoot to this one. One thing I would change is I would like to see more light involved as that is one aspect I have been investigating and it is making in this shoot. However, because this shoot was based on the artist's model Jerry Takigawa I was trying to stay more within the conventions of their particular style of photography. I feel like I am starting to struggle with photographing under my theme of dreams and feel as though I may need a change to a new idea that can expand my work more and will be more accessible for me to shoot.
