Board Layout progression & Critiques
Class based assessment and self evaluation
20th May - The first board layout I did myself. It only includes shoots 1, 2, and 3 at this point under my initial theme of dreams. The pictures themselves I'm finding are quite plain looking. I am also feeling quite lost with the layout I feel as though the pictures aren't relating to each other in a way that possesses the feeling of dreams that I am trying get across e.g the contrast between having the building, then shots of nature, then a still life shoot. I understand this is my first board layout but feel like I can do much better than this. I will re-arrange and re-evaluate the board layout after feedback from our teacher.
25 May - Board layout after changes from feedback were made. This is definitely an improvement from my initial layout as the teacher had given me feedback and it has now been applied. My work is still in its very early stages and right now does not feel like it fits in with my theme of dreams. The shoots by themselves are good but when put in groupings on the board I feel like they are losing value as there is not enough range, the overall composition with them side by side is not working well. However, seeing this board layout with the feedback given I am now able to visualise what is going to be needed in order for me to move forward in my work, and upcoming shoots.
27 Jun - This board has shoots 2, 5, and 6 added on, and shoots 1,3, and 4 have been dropped off. I feel this board is a large improvement from my last. I now have enough imagery from my shoots to fill up two boards whereas, previously I was only on board one. The overall composition of the photos that are on look far more cohesive altogether however I feel I may be lacking in the way the board is read, I need to start working on creating purposeful placements and groupings for the photos rather than how they look altogether. The addition of the model from my most recent shoot (shoot 6) is definitely what has propelled my work forward, without it I feel although I would still be struggling with ideas. The new theme change to Twilight has also vastly improved my work. I feel like I am able to gather more inspiration from artist models with the new theme, this will ultimately help with my future shoots and board layouts.
24 Jul - Progression has been made in this new board layout. On this board, there are shoots 2, 6, 7, and 8. I feel that lots of positive progress has been made. One thing I would like to work on for my next board layout is the flow and how the board is read. I think that my groupings are really strong, I just need to work on ordering them e.g the grouping where she is running on the beach should be closer to the groupings where she is sitting in the grass so that it can flow nicer. This board layout is my favorite so far, the photos and investigation of texture and light are what I have been trying to emulate within my work and I feel like it is starting to come together. In addition to this, with the amount of new work I have been generating I decided to remove all shoots that are no longer fitting the board e.g shoot's 1, 3, 4, 5.
22 Aug - This is the board layout handed in for the most recent formative. I have included shoots 2, 6, 7, 8, and 9. After rearranging the order of my groupings from the last board layout I feel like more positive improvement has been made. I also removed some photos that I felt were just becoming fillers and didn't have a purpose. The artist models used on the board are Ann Shelton, Anna Gaskell, Christopher Bucklow, Nick Fancher, and Minor White. The addition of the photos from shoot 9 really enhance the look of the board. I love how it has enabled me to investigate colour while still in corporating texture and light so that it still flows well with my other work. Overall really happy with how the board is looking.
24 Aug - Most recent board layout after formative feedback has been given. This was only a slight adjustment on the third board and entailed swapping the placement of some pictures from shoot 9 as well as removing a couple. I feel like with this adjustment my board still reads really well. The overall composition looks good and encapsulates what feel I have been trying to get across with my work. The groupings and investigations of texture and light look really good, as well as the features of my model and landscape, it brings an abstract aspect to my board that I am very happy with.
