Initial Brainstorm of ideas
Brainstorm of Chosen theme
Tim Booth
I really the idea of the stillness life. I could use this idea to capture hand positions for different shots.
Edward Weston
I really the idea of the stillness life. I could use this idea to build on the hand position shots.
Andres Kertesz
I really the idea of the stillness life. I could use this idea to capture detail of the pool table rails.
Peter Black
I really the idea of the connection and documentary style. I could use this idea to capture the NZ Junior Team tournament in the USA.
Michael Snow
I really the idea of the stillness of motion, as it gives the allusion that the image is moving. I could use this idea to capture jump shots while the ball is mid-air, or the cue after a break shot.
Francesca Woodman
The blurred technique gives an interesting abstract perspective that gives the impression of forward motion. I could try using this technique to illustrate cue ball movement created on contact of the cue or with other balls.
Yuki Onodera
I like how the lighting cuts an interesting impression on a single object. The camera technique almost makes the object look 3-dimensional. I could use this technique to illustrate the feeling the isolation and vulnerability of the player when taking a shot in front of an audience.
Hannah Wilke
This image uses an interesting angle and close-up camera techniques. I could think about these techniques throughout my shoots, because images of the game of pool could become quite repetitive and uninteresting.
Fischli & Weiss
I love the idea of deliberate double exposure, and the use of macro close-up within this image. This image projects a sense of contrasts between light and dark, very similar to pool - winners and losers or playing well or poorly. I could use this to show players expressions the contrast between the player taking the shot and the player in the hot seat.
Lynne Cohen
I like the technique of the large-format camera view that shows depth and distance within an interior space. The image captures the symmetry of the space much like a pool room. It would be interesting to use this idea to show different sections interior pool tournament spaces, using the lines of lighting and tables.
Gerhard Richter
This is an interesting technique to overlay the image with texture. Its as if an uninteresting moment is brought to life in the next moment to give it a sense of presence. I could use this idea of creativity a shoot, where I could take an uninteresting pool game shot and collage it painting artworks, such as Van Gogh 'The Night Cafe'.
Jeff Wall
I like the use of large-scale back-lit techniques used in this image that projections a sense of documentary and cinematography. I could use this technique in the consideration of my attention to foreground and background reflections, especially in team played tournaments.
Still Life Artist Model - Irving Penn
For shoot 3 I will be using the still life artist model Irving Penn, as well as future shoots. I was Inspired by these 2 images.
Progressing Artist Models
Thinking and reflecting on the images of I have captured, I felt they were repetitive and didn't form a cohesive idea. I also thought my ideas looked muddled when putting my boards together. The images felt 1-dimensional and lack any detail to inspire audience interest. In order to progress my theme I need inspiration of detail, colour and movement.
Bill Armstrong
Capture player emotion and focus through the use of blurring (beyond Francesca Woodman).
David Wurm
Altering the colour and contrasts to extend the pool table architecture and introduce colour and contrast. Extended from the Edward Weston angles.
William Fredering
Capture movement.
Barbara Morgan
Capture movement to show the energy of action and reaction
