When you arrive, you will need to fill out a registration form with your child’s name, age, grade and weight. A parent/guardian signature will be required. Next, your child will be weighed in. Once you have completed these steps you can head to the stands and get your seat.
Depending on the grade your child is in, most tournaments will run Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and so on. If your child will be wrestling in the early part of the tournament it is best to get them out on the mat and warmed up. This is where most accidents can occur so it is important to keep an eye on your child.
They may begin with the National Anthem, or they may call the first group of wrestlers to the bracketing area. One adult should go with your child at that time. They will call your child’s name and then proceed to the mat. Usually they are in a group of four wrestlers. Each child typically wrestles twice. If your child wins once and loses once, and another child in the bracket does the same, they may have to wrestle a third match for a “True Second”. After everyone in the bracket has wrestled, they will then be taken to the awards ceremony. (Bring your camera!!) Children will receive something for their efforts whether it is a trophy or a medal.
At this time you are free to go. This entire process usually only takes a couple of hours. But, this is also a great time for you and your child to bond as a family, cheer on other teammates, meet new friends and have a GREAT time!!
