Yes. For preK-6th grade the fee is $50/wrestler with a $100 family max. Payment is due the first practice. We accept checks, cash or Venmo. For 7-12 grade wrestlers, there is also a fee. That is to be paid at the high school office and varies based upon your child's grade level.
Wrestling shoes can be purchased from a variety of stores. Price points do vary. It is recommended to find a store for proper fitting and to lightly break in the shoes prior to practicing. They are NOT to be worn outside the wrestling room. Other equipment include headgear, gym shorts, tshirt and running shoes. High school athletes are required to shower after every practice and competition to reduce skin borne illnesses.
Wrestling singlets are worn for competitions and not for practice. Both elementary and high school singlets will be provided, but must be turned in at the end of the season.
Yes! Each year in late October/early November we have an optional clothing store for family and fans to buy some WDC Wrestling gear! Information will be posted on Facebook and Team Reach.
We ask families to help sell as many raffle tickets as possible to help raise money for the WDC Wrestling Club (preK-12 athletes). Please turn them into a coach or Club board member anytime before the end of January. The raffle drawing is held at the WDC Youth Wrestling Tournament in mid-February.
USABracketing (formerly Trackwrestling) is the program in which tournaments are run on. Athletes must create an account that can be linked to their team. When at tournaments, spectators can follow brackets, search results, and scout opponents all from the website.
MatBoss is a video recording and statistics program. Our team managers record matches using an iPad for athletes to watch film all season long. Athletes can also watch prior season and footage of their teammates. Each wrestler can create an account for free. This is tied to USABracketing for results.
Wadena-Deer Creek Athletics will give each student a "pink slip" when they are elligible to participate for a sport. It is simply a checklist ensuring that each athlete has an up-to-date physical, signed waivers and fees paid for. Athletes are required to have a pink slip turned into their coach prior to any sports practice.
The 7-12 wrestlers take their team photos prior to the first day of practice (Nov 12, 2025). This is to ensure families get their photos in a timely manner.
PreK-6 photos are taken in January and will be communicated to families when the date is set.
All 7-12 wrestlers undergo a weight certification process as mandated by the Minnesota State High School League. This is to ensure athletes are properly managing their weight. At the start of each season, a certified skinfold technician will use a calipers to measure the body fat percentage of each athlete. Then, a licensed physician does an analysis of each athlete to verify the results. Parents also sign the form and can either agree with the physician or change the desired weight certification. The paperwork is then verified with MSHSL. Please contact a coach if you have questions about the process.
