At West Covina High School we have a number of Academic Awards that our students can earn. The following are some of those awards.
AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams
AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams
AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams
AP Capstone Diploma: Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing.
AP Seminar and Research Certificate: Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research, but not on four additional AP Exams.
Athlete of the Year: Awarded to the top male and female athletes of the senior class, with an emphasis on athletic achievement. Students are awarded certificates and plaques. Areas of consideration including, but not limited to: All-CIF recognition, All-League recognition, Academic All-League recognition, years lettering, multi-sport participation, college or professional athletics opportunities, academics, extra-curricular involvement, total non-weighted GPA, other community recognition
CTE Pathway completion: Students who complete a two year sequence in a CTE Pathway are awarded an honor cord to be worn at graduation.
Golden State Seal Merit Diploma: Students who show mastery of the curriculum in six subject areas: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, US History, and two additional subject areas. These students receive a Golden State Seal that is affixed to their diploma.
Honor Cords: Student may earn honor cords to be worn at graduation for the participation and excellence in a variety of curricular and co-curricular programs and certain clubs on campus. Each program has their own requirements for earning an honor cord. Examples of honors cords.
Scholar Athlete of the Year: Awarded to the top male and female scholar athletes of the senior class, with an emphasis on academic achievement. Students are awarded certificates, plaques and chords. Areas of consideration including, but not limited to: All-CIF recognition, All-League recognition, Academic All-League recognition, years lettering, multi-sport participation, college or professional athletics opportunities, academics, extra-curricular involvement , total non-weighted GPA, other community recognition
Senior Medallion: This award is given out to our most outstanding seniors. WCHS Senior Medallion recipients exemplify the highest Bulldog ideals both in and out of the classroom. A recipient is a well-rounded student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership, and school spirit and whose integrity is beyond reproach. These students have made every effort to become fully immersed in the many facets of WCHS life and to make positive contributions to enhance the Bulldog community. Picture of a Senior Medallion.
To be eligible to apply for a Senior Medallion students must have:
a 3.5 total weighted GPA or higher
been a student at WCHS for at least 6 semester (not counting summer sessions)
State Seal of Biliteracy: Students who show a proficiency in both English and another language are awarded an honor cord to be worn at graduation.
Valle Vista 5: Awarded to the top 5 athletes of the senior or junior classes, with an emphasis on a well rounded balance of athletic achievement, academic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. Students are awarded certificates, patches and chords. Areas of consideration including, but not limited to: All-CIF recognition, All-League recognition, Academic All-League recognition, years lettering, multi-sport participation, college or professional athletics opportunities, academics, extra-curricular involvement , total non-weighted GPA, other community recognition
Honor stoles are awarded to students for their 7 semester (9th grade-Fall of 12th Grade) total weighted GPA and can be worn at graduation. Click here for a picture of the honor stoles.
4.0+ Grade Point Average: Summa Cum Laude
3.8-3.99 Grade Point Average: Magna Cum Laude
3.5.3.79 Grade Point Average: Cum Laude
The WCHS Honor Roll recognizes students with outstanding academic achievement at the end of each semester’s grading periods. The following guidelines determine eligibility:
3.8+ Grade Point Average: Principal’s Honor Roll
3.5 - 3.79 Grade Point Average: High Honor Roll
3.0 - 3.49 Grade Point Average: Honor Roll
