August 2020
Dear Sixth Grade Families,
Welcome to Sixth Grade! We hope that you are having a wonderful summer and are so excited to meet you soon. This year will be a different amazing 6th grade adventure but working together, we will rise to the occasion! To help you get off to a great start with all types of learning that may occur this year, we have created a supply list and included a few suggestions for remote learning.
To help meet current safety guidelines and to prepare for any variation of learning (at home, hybrid or in-person) we may have throughout the year, please know we are working thoughtfully to plan for the handling of school supplies with procedures that will help keep items personalized for individual student use, stocked to be used as needed, and that will reduce items needed to be daily sanitized. We suggest that with each of the supplies noted with an *asterisk*, students have one or two for daily use and keep any bulk extra at home to replenish as needed. We will help monitor your child's supplies in school and are grateful for your assistance with this by asking them periodically when they need to replenish items, and then sending the items in with them as needed.
Students will bring their binders to and from school every day. Think of it as carry in/carry out. Binders will hold their soft 3 ring pencil case, their planner, the folders for each subject, and looseleaf. The soft 3 ring pencil case will hold their pencils, sharpener, highlighter, post-its, scissors, and dry erase markers; one small for small dry erase board work and one large for when they are called to write on the classroom whiteboard, both in working condition. An easy way to monitor supplies at home is to regularly check their binders for these basics.
As you know, we are remotely starting the year. When classes begin we will have more detailed guidelines but for now, here are a few to help you set up your learning space so you are more productive and successful:
Choose a workspace that is free of distraction (pets, siblings, loud sounds, etc.)
Set up your learning station….chromebook, binder, notebooks, pencils, etc. on a surface where you have enough room to comfortably work and participate when necessary.
Create a consistent schedule for your week, write it out and keep it visible.
Use checklists to keep track of your responsibilities. They are an excellent way to organize yourself, and it feels great to check something off your list when you've completed it!
