Course Overview
Spanish 2 is an intermediate-beginner course designed for students who have completed Spanish 1 (Checkpoint A). This year, we shift from memorizing isolated words and formulas to creating with the language. Students will learn to combine familiar vocabulary to express original ideas, speak and write in longer paragraph-length structures, and handle real-world, multi-step situations in Spanish.
Our ultimate goal is to move students along the proficiency continuum from the Novice-Mid/High level toward the Intermediate-Low level, preparing them for the Checkpoint B regional assessment in Spanish 3.
All students in this course level take the Spanish Checkpoint B exam in June. Students must pass this course and pass the Spanish Checkpoint B Exam in order to qualify for an Advanced Regents Diploma.
Spanish will be used most of the times during class. I fully expect that your participation will likewise be in Spanish. Don’t expect to be perfect. It’s OK to make mistakes-just try to say what you need to say in Spanish. Communication is our primary goal, not perfection. Have faith in yourself; you know more than you realize. Take a moment to think about what you want to say, then say it in Spanish. Your active participation in all class activities will help you to have a successful, and hopefully, enjoyable experience and it is very important in preparation for success on the final exam.
