Course: ICCC U.S. History to 1877 (HIS 151)
Description: Fall Semester
This course includes the political, socio-cultural, and economic factors in the development of American Civilization from the earliest European explorers until the end of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Topics to be explored are colonial foundations, revolution, confederation, and constitution; nationalism and democracy; sectional disunity, Civil War, and reunion. Throughout this course, students must read primary and secondary sources through a critical lens and use critical thinking skills to solve problems. Additionally, this course reinforces students' written communication skills through essays and verbal communication skills through class discussions and presentations. Importantly, students are asked to think critically, consider the viewpoints of others, and effectively express themselves, all of which will benefit them in the classroom, in life, and in the workforce.Â
NOTE: Students will receive 3 credit hours at Iowa Central Community College.
