Course: ICCC 75 Hour Nurse Aide CourseT9905 (CNA) (HSC 172)
Description:
This course provides students with a basic level of knowledge and skills to provide safe, effective resident care. This nurse aide course meets the training requirements of The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) for aides working in nursing facilities (NF) and skilled nursing facilities (SNF).
The students must have a physical examination with a TB test (at their own cost) before clinical practice can begin.
Students must provide their own uniforms and white shoes, and meet the requirements set aside in class for the expectations of uniforms. They must also provide their own transportation to and from the long-term care facility during the clinical portion of the course.
Thirty (30) hours will be spent in the classroom, fifteen (15) hours spent in laboratory practice with other students, and a minimum of thirty (30) hours spent in a long-term care facility providing care to residents under the direction of the course instructor. A student must successfully complete the classroom portion of the course with a minimum of a 75% grade average, before they will be allowed to participate in the clinical portion. No student may miss more than 10% of this 75-hour, state mandated course. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the CNA testing provided by the state of Iowa, which is available through Iowa Central Community College. If the student passes the testing, he or she may be employed as a CNA in the state of Iowa. The cost for this testing is $100, which will be the total responsibility of the student.
Note: Individual transportation may be needed. Class size limited to 10, per state rules. This course is a prerequisite for admission into any Iowa Central Community College nursing program, plus a student must pass the state certification exam.
NOTE: Students will receive 3 credit hours at Iowa Central Community College.
