Description: Fall & Spring Semester
English 9 is a study of literature and writing based on an investigation of literary themes and patterns in fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama. Instruction will focus on refining reading strategies; developing the ability to analyze and interpret literary texts; increasing vocabulary and developing word attack strategies; and communicating and extending understanding. The student will respond to, analyze and interpret literary texts in class discussion, projects and presentations, reading journal entries, formal paragraphs and essays, and informal writing. Writing instruction will focus on refining, developing and applying writing process strategies with formal paragraphs and essays required. Outside reading, writing, speaking, listening, discussion, class participation, creative writing, reports, logs, journal entries, self-evaluation, presentations and projects will be required.
