Course: Ceramics
Description: Fall Semester
This course is intended for those studying ceramics for the first time and is a comprehensive introduction to the art of ceramics with equal emphasis given to the skills of designing and constructing. In this class we will explore hand-construction as well as working on the potter’s wheel. You will learn to throw, trim, and glaze pottery using a variety of techniques. Hand built techniques include the pinch method, coil, and slab. Students will be introduced to new ceramic terminology throughout the semester. All projects include personal choices to allow students to explore expressive qualities within their projects.
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Elective Credit
Prerequisite: Intro to Art required
Course: Advanced Ceramics
Description: Spring Semester
This course is intended for those wishing to study ceramics in a more independent role. Students will be given more freedom to choose their projects design and construction. Students will continue to develop their hand building skills in pinch, coil, and slab techniques. Students will also begin to learn more advanced techniques on the wheel. New glazing and underglaze techniques will be introduced. Students in this class are expected to produce original, well planned, high-level constructed pieces.
