Course: Advanced Animal Production I
Description: Fall Semester
Advanced Animal Production I and II are designed with year long enrollment in mind but may be split into individual semesters. Advanced Animal Production I and II are our highest level of animal science learning for students at WCHS. Students enrolled in this class will be in charge of caring for the animals at the Career Ag Academy. Students will learn basic animal husbandry skills with daily herd checks. When problems arise with the animals students will use problem solving skills to diagnose and implement animal health solutions. Students will have animal units such as swine, poultry, beef, sheep, and goat where live animals will be in the facility. During these units students will engage in industry studies of these animals with feed trials and data collection related to health and growth of animals. Students will work closely with local animal industry leaders in management and learning about the livestock industry. This class is a resume builder for any student interested in careers around animal science.
Grade level: 11, 12 Elective Credit
Prerequisite: ICCC Survey of Animal Industry and Animal Science preferred.
