I had another "Thank you Ms. Daniel" moment. It happened tonight when I walked into my dorm room after band. My roommate was stressing out about a research paper she has to write for her Intro to Appalachian Studies class. For this paper she must submit an annotated bibliography, use at least three books, and propose the topic she wants to write about. She said she thought she wanted to write about something related to her future career (She wants to be a PA). Thanks to you, I was able to tell her that I know how to do an annotated bibliography, and that I probably even had some sources about medicine in Appalachia that I could share with her (The research essay from Fair and Tender Ladies. I wrote about medicine in Appalachia. Clearly I really enjoyed this research essay since I still remember writing it in AP English 11!). [. . .] I looked on my flash drive and found a list of the sources I used in my research paper. There are bullets below each source that contain some of the information I found important for my research paper. From this information, I was able to google and pull up the original source I used to write my paper. I also found my annotated bibliography, which is from a different paper but will still allow me to help her if she needs it.
I miss your class and the fun/laughs I had in it. Some of my favorite memories from high school actually took place in your class. I hope you are doing well!
Thank you again,
B. (JSBHS, Class of 2015)
Hi Ms. Daniel,
I was thinking of you the other day in my English class and I thought I would send you an email. I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your class. It really prepared me for college and challenged me in a positive way. I learned a lot in your class and I wanted to thank you for featuring Appalachian literature and history in some of the books we read. It was really interesting to me at the time. I've kind of developed a passion for it so I'm majoring in Sustainable Development with a minor in Appalachian Studies; I think my interest is due in part to some of what we did in your class. Thanks for putting so much effort into your job and taking our education so seriously--it means a lot. Have a great day!

Hi Ms. Daniel,
This is S. I want to say thank you for teaching me how to read critically and understand/interpret material. I am taking the MCAT exam for medical school next week, and there is a section called the CARS, which is critical analysis and reading skills. For a lot of people, it is one of the more difficult sections, but I actually scored very well on it. I attribute that success to you because I took AP English and Dual Enrollment with you. So, I just wanted to say thank you so much for teaching me how to do that and thank you for developing my reasoning skills. It has benefited me so much in college, and you have made a profound impact on my success in college. You prepared me so well for the future. I appreciate you very much.
Many thanks,
S. (JSBHS, Class of 2018)
Hi Ms. Daniel,
I hope you are doing well and having a great summer. I wanted to say "hi" and send you something. Attached is an article I wrote for a local paper that was adapted for Birding, the American Birding Association's magazine. I wanted to send this as a thank you. It's because of your class that I feel confident as a writer and willing to put my work out there for everyone (yikes!) to see.
Have a great day,
A. (JSBHS, Class of 2018)
