STEP 1 - Nomination:
Students in grades four through twelve may be nominated by parents, teachers, or other school personnel for a referral to the School-Based Committee for Gifted Education at any time with demonstrated above-grade-level performance. Students may also self-nominate. If you would like to nominate your child, please send Ms. Wise an email with your child's first and last name and grade level.
STEP 2 - Referral:
The School-Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBCGE) considers all nominations. The committee reviews available student data and documentation based on formal and informal indicators and determines which of the nominated students will be referred.
Grades 4-12:
Students in grades 4-8 may be nominated for gifted programming at any point in the year.
When a student is nominated, data will be collected by the SBCGE to determine if a referral/testing is appropriate.
A student may be evaluated using the CogAT aptitude test and the Iowa achievement tests for Reading and Math during the Fall and Spring testing windows.
Students may also be identified through the portfolio process, which utilizes multiple data points for identification.
CogAT and Iowa Testing will take place in October and January.
Individually administered tests and other alternative measures (i.e., nonverbal assessments) may be given if appropriate.
For more details, please review Standard 1 of the WCPSS AIG Plan.
