All second-grade students are initially screened for AIG identification. They are not nominated.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth-grade students can be nominated for the AIG Identification process once a year.
Students can be nominated for initial evaluation for the AIG Program or they can be nominated in a second area if they have already been identified in one area.
When?
Nominations are accepted all year, but CogAT and Iowa testing for AIG placement only happens twice a year.
How?
Email sshirsekar@wcpss.net with your child’s name, grade level, and homeroom teacher.
-Are students automatically nominated for the AIG identification process?
No. Students are not automatically referred for the AIG identification process. Parents and/or teachers have to nominate a student to be considered for the process. Nominations are accepted throughout the year, but CogAT and Iowa testing for AIG placement occur only twice a year. Nominated students should be showing high potential in their classroom.
-How do I nominate my student for the AIG identification process?
Contact your homeroom teacher and the AIG teacher with your nomination by emailing them. You will then be contacted by the AIG teacher with more information.
-What happens after I nominate my student for the AIG identification process?
The School-Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBCGE) meets to review all nominations. During this meeting, the committee carefully considers each nominee and determines whether testing is appropriate. Please note that a nomination does not guarantee testing; this decision is made by the committee based on a review of all relevant student data.
The SBCGE includes classroom teachers, administrators, and AIG teachers. Once the committee identifies students who will move forward with testing, individualized testing materials are ordered and prepared. A testing schedule is then created, and families are notified of the committee’s decision regarding their child

There are two testing windows during the year - one occurs during the the fall (October) and the other occurs during the spring (January - March). The county sets all testing windows and deadlines for nominations.
-How often can students be tested for AIG identification?
