What are my chances of getting in?
It depends on your priority but the best chance is in Kindergarten because that grade receives the most magnet seats. The number of seats change every year but typically 25% of our Kindergarten grade is magnet seats and seats are in the teens for 1st-5th.
Is there a test to get in? Does my child have to be gifted?
NO! WCPSS does not have academic requirements for most magnet schools; every child has a gift or talent. There is no test. If students are formally identified as AIG in Wake County, they will be required to take an AIG elective in 4th and 5th grade. We also offer AIG electives with an AIG teacher midyear for all grades based on teacher recommendation.
Where will my kid go to middle school?
Middle schools are also assigned based on your address. Parents can view base and application choices for all school levels on the WCPSS website. If a student wants to follow their magnet seat pathway to middle or high school, they will have the highest priority if applying to Ligon, Carnage or Martin (based on address) and then Enloe High School.
Do you have before or after school care?
We have a before school program operated daily by Washington Elementary staff, from 7:00 am until the arrival bell. The cost of the program is around $100.00 per month per child.
The Wake County Boys and Girls Club operates an after school program on campus and provides care from the dismissal bell until 8:00 PM on school days. More information can be found on their website, https://wakebgc.org/washington-elementary-club/. Parents may also contact the Director at (919) 518-9609.
