Explorers

Third Grade is Wake County's AIG identification year. The AIG teachers at all (most) schools push into all third grade classes to provide enrichment. Students who do well with this are seen in small groups called Explorers. (These students are not identified as AIG.) All third graders take the CogAT in the fall (when there is not a pandemic).Students who score at least an 85%ile on the CogAT are invited to take the Iowa in December. The scores from both tests are used to identify a list of nominees. We are also closely watching our students to look for potential giftedness and to nurture it. Services for identified students usually begin in March.
